A Name with Heart, Heritage, and Hustle

Earlier this month, we welcomed a promising new colt to the Mo Speed Racing team, a Twirling Candy out of To a Friend. Today, we’re proud to share that he officially has a name: West End Kid.

This name isn’t just a label, it’s a legacy.

West End Kid was named by Ron Mawaka, father of Mo Speed Racing owner Scott Mawaka. Ron grew up in the west end of Chicopee, Massachusetts, a proud Polish immigrant textile town where the kids were known for being rough, resourceful, and resilient. They were known simply as the West End Kids, and it was a badge of honor.

In naming this colt, we pay tribute to that spirit, hardworking, scrappy, and full of heart, qualities we believe will define West End Kid as he grows and trains for the track.

We’re excited for what lies ahead for this colt and honored to carry forward a name rooted in family and grit.
